Fox and Friends: Jonathan Maunsell reports in from the Red Bull Fox Hunt

The Redbull Foxhunt took place last Sunday in Northern Ireland. It’s a mass start event with 550 riders starting together at the top of a mountain, all racing each other down and trying not to get caught by the Foxes! This year there were three foxes where Gee Atherton, Loic Bruni, and Greg Callaghan.

Irish Kona Racer Jonathan Maunsell was there competing and after a tough battle he finished up in seventh place just behind Gee Atherton. You have to see the overtake from his GoPro to believe it! Jonathan said “ It is a crazy feeling at the top of that hill, once the horn sounds chaos ensues! I had a slow start and had to dig deep and do A LOT of overtaking. Near the bottom of the course, I could feel the heat of Gee on my tail. I tried to defend my position, but out of the corner of my eye, I spotted Gee’s wheel flying past me in the air! I stuck with him to the line to finish in 7th position”

Kona Dream Builds: Jakes Process 153 CR DL Huck Giraffe

We’ve seen a few custom Process 153 CR DL pop up, but i think as it stands Jake Hood’s latest build out of Queenstown, NZ takes the cake. The Huck Giraffe is not going to be everyone’s cup of tea with its out there DYED Bro frame protector but there is no denying that the build itself is straight up dreamy. Jake even had new orange decals printed to match the Fox shocks and to replace the original hot pink highlights. We can’t wait to see what this bike gets up to over summer in Queenstown, remember Jake sends his Honzo ST down Queenstown Dream Track!

Let’s check out the build! Kicking things off with the hoops, Jake has opted for Greg Minnars new signature Maxxis Assegai 2.5 WT up front and High Roller II 2.5 WT with Cush Core insert out back, both tires are mounted on Stans Flow rims. Suspension wise Jake has swapped out all the original dampers for a Fox Factory 36 Grip 2 up front and a Fox Factory Float X2 out back.

There’s not much left from the original build here, Jake has even swapped out the Reverb for a Fox Transfer post hooked up to One Up’s carbon lever, complete with color matched SDG Duster saddle.

Jake has kept the cranks but switched out the rear mech for a full Shimano XT setup with a One Up 47t cog. One-Up’s bash guide keeps the chaining safe and some sweet use of mastic tape on the chainstay is going to keep this bike ultra quiet. Feet are held in place by One Up alloy pedals.

Cock pit wise you’ll find Enve’s new M7 bars a sexy as all hell Thomson 40mm stem and some classic ODI Ruffians. Can you spy One-Ups carbon dropper post lever?

XT 4 piston stoppers. What more could you need.

A closer look at Jake’s custom sticker job.
