Fairfax, Virginia-based Oasis Bike Works recently hooked up 40 lucky kids with brand new Kona bikes courtesy of the Beacon House. The Beacon House is an organization focusing on the Edgewood Terrace neighborhood in Washington, D.C., dedicated to helping at-risk children and their families through education, cultural, recreational and athletic programs. Here are a few photos from the original Oasis Bike Works blog post showcasing the giveaway.

Kona Bikes for Kids at Risk
Thursday, November 12th, 2009New World Disorder 10 Premier – Presented by Whatcom Trails Co-Op
Tuesday, October 27th, 2009
It started with just a few. But with time, passion and foresight, Whatcom Trails Co-Op has developed into a local community that is willing to ride over anything put in its way. With a diverse foundation of members, the Co-Op has created a culture of support, caring, and respect for one another.
This past weekend was the most fun I have had in awhile, a friggin wicked local NWD 10 premier, followed by a balls out downhill chainless race. With months of planning put into this it was nice to finally get to the date and get the party started. WTC decided to do two showings, with one being an all ages show and the other a 21 and over. We had great numbers for both which is awesome because all proceeds go back to the trails we ride. It was good to see that parents had the opportunity to hang with fellow shredders and let their kids have fun watching the flick as well. With tons of swag from the many sponsors, I think a lot of the people had gotten something they didn’t have before the movie.

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009These were some poster-style illustrations from Kona’s Brand Book. We released only these posters and they ended up shagging some Applied Arts Design Awards. Step on Two refers to our Rise of the Pedaltarian campaign, an urban, get off the couch and ride your bike to change the world initiative. Basically, a humanitarian with pedals.

Sunday, October 18th, 2009NY Times Article Says Bike Industry Growth Threatens Access
Friday, October 16th, 2009This is from Rich Cook, IMBA Development Director. As long-time IMBA supporters, we urge all cyclists to do their part. If you’re not an IMBA member, this might be reason for you to join.
I urge you to read this article from last Sunday’s edition of the New York Times.
I suspect you will agree that the anti-bike tone and flawed logic in this story represent a serious threat to the cycling industry. Even the title, “Growth in Mountain Biking May Put Western Trails Off Limits,” implies that the success of our industry threatens continued bike access to scenic areas.
The piece also sympathetically describes a U.S. Forest Service policy taking shape in Region 5 (Montana and Idaho) to ban bicycles from landscapes that might be considered for Wilderness designations — someday.
