Shop of the week- Blue Line Bike Lab(s) Houston, TX

“Some folks like to blend in. They strive to look like every other person, dress like every other person, and ride what everybody else rides. They sacrifice desire and passion in order to maintain their mediocrity, and they distrust originality. They refuse to stand out and they will never shine, and that is all right. It’s just not who we are. We are the Blue Line Bicycle Laboratory. Founded in November of 2005, Blue Line Bikes is bringing a whole new attitude to the Houston bike scene.” (www.bluelinebikelab.com)

That’s straight from Blue Line Bike Lab’s website and they are living up to their promise of brining a new attitude to the energy industry rich metropolis of Houston, TX.  Brothers Fred & David Zapalac opened the original Bike Lab in Houston’s Height’s neighborhood pre-gentrification.  Since 2005, The Bike Lab has benefited from the young professionals that have flocked to the Height’s neighborhood to purchase and renovate the historic homes of the neighborhood.    The Height’s store is housed in an old supermarket, complete with an original deli counter now filled with an eclectic mix of anodized tidbits, has become a landmark among the sea of upscale boutiques and restaurants that now dot White Oak Drive. Shop of the Week – Bicycle Cafe Kamloops

“We’ve been in business for ten years now and Kona was the first brand to open with us back in 2003,” says Cheryl Beattie, owner of the Bicycle Cafe Kamloops. “It’s awesome that after all these years we maintain a strong relationship with a brand that’s supported us since our beginning. Kona continues to develop in positive ways and so do we. We grow together.”

“Opening a bike shop sort of just made sense for me,” adds Cheryl. “I spent a lot time working in shops when I was younger, so I had some well-developed ideas of how to do things my own way. Some great opportunities presented themselves to me and everything just felt right. It was great timing for me and things couldn’t have worked out better.” Read More

Shop of the Week – Centre City Cycles, Escondido, California

Great things come in threes. And great things are happening for Centre City Cycles in Escondido, California. April 1 marks the shop’s first anniversary, April 8 Centre City Cycles holds its first club ride, and April 14 Centre City Cycles and Kona host a Kona Demo Day at Lake Hodges.

Celebrating its first anniversary April 1, 2012 is something shop owner Marc Day says he’s done against the odds.  “We’ve done it against predictions of global economic uncertainty and despite soothsayers and so-called prophets warning about 12/21/2012 “doomsday” and “end of the world” events.” Read More

One Million Kona Test Rides at this Year’s NEMBA Fest

2011 was the hottest year yet for this great event. Record temps (mid 80′s!) greeted gaggles of mountain bike enthusiasts from all over New England for this balmy two day festival of mountain bike demo’s, tours, rides, contests, and general merrymaking, at Bear Brook State Park in the Manchester/Concord, NH area. Our amazing dealer, New England Bicycle from Southwick, MA, helped us set up and send out 1 million riders on free demos on a fleet of new 2012 Konas. We made many new friends and created a rabid new Kona fan base in the area (mainly due to the sweet riding Hei Hei 29 Supremes). Thanks also to Phillip Keyes of New England Mountain Bike Association for putting on this event that has become a staple of the New England mountain bike scene.
