I’m three rides in on one super sweet bike. 2010 CoilAir Supreme frame, full Saint Groupo, Chromag OSX bar and stem, Easton Havoc seat post, Mavic Crossmax SX wheelset, 2.5 tubeless Maxxis SuperTack tires, Totem Solo Air fork. At an 20-inch frame size, with beefy SPD pedals, the bike still weighs in at an honest 35-pounds. Not bad for a bike with 7 inches of front travel and up to 8-inches in the back, thanks to G2 Magic Link technology. For the type of riding we do out here in Nelson, BC, with super tech climbs to super burly downs, it’s amazingly svelte ride with all the right geometry to go up efficiently and then go down fast with big confidence. Stay tuned for more trail reports.

To Squish or not to Squish? What a Stupid Question.
You’ve seen it a thousand times before. Lord knows you probably do it all the time. One of those weird human behaviours recently introduced into the ever-growing catalogue of weird human behaviour: Reality TV shows, monster trucks, men dressing up as girls, girls dressing up as men, webcams, and now…The Squish.
You know what I’m talking about. You’re outside the schoolyard, behind the bike shop, down by the place where they should have a dirt jump park, or anywhere else where there are mountain bikers and you’ll see them. Squishin’ their forks, squishing the rear shock, squishin’ when they’re talking, squishin’ when they’re standing still, squishin’ not even knowing that they’re squishin’.

Ten days of exploring the wilds of Iceland by bike has come to a close. What an incredible adventure. Very few people ride their bikes here, for a variety of reasons. But the opportunity is massive. With only 300,000 residents and a huge diversity of landscapes, Iceland is a mountain biker’s dream come true. Geologically young dirt, unpopulated hiking trails past hot springs and glaciers, with waterfalls cascading through black lava rock covered in thick, fluorescent green moss…it’s all here. And so much has yet been discovered by bike. Here’s a sampling of my humble pictures, edited of their mountain bike action. You’ll have to wait for that. Right now our feature story, which will showcase photographer Sterling Lorence’s massive bank of Iceland images, is scheduled for the December Issue of Bike Magazine. So, sometimes I get a little crazy in the mountains. And this place is so weird and wild, I guess it deeply impacted me. -Mitch, Kona Communications Dude

Four hours by car northeast of Reykjavik, through lush ocean meadows and arid moonscape plains, we arrive at this tiny outpost hotel. Basically Atco trailers in the desert. Another hour on rough, rocky, volcanic plains and the earth explodes into one of the wildest landscapes any of us has ever seen. Broken lava, mountains colored everything from black to pink, with fluorescent green and blood red thrown in for good measure. Incredible moss flows down beach hued ridgelines like streams, while giant glaciers loom in the distance. Throw in grey muck spewing geysers that steam away in every other valley and you’ve got yourself Landmannalagaur, Iceland. But that’s not all. How about wicked singletrack that no one ever rides. Too good to be true. Look for the feature Bike Magazine in the next few months.

I have recently landed in the beautiful town of Reykjavik, Iceland. I’m here to do a story with Sterling Lorence for Bike Magazine which will have us adventuring deep into one of the most spectacular landscapes on earth. Straddling the intersection of the North American and European continental plates, Iceland is a land of, well, every possible geologic formation available: geysers to glaciers, lush mossy waterfalls to arid planes of dust and desert.
