Kona Groms Slay

In my research for a new Kona online exclusive magazine article, titled “Salad Days”, whereby I (Mitch) take an inside look into the kids of Kona, we came across this shot of Adison Macdonald, a 12-year-old ripper from Whistler, BC. Attaboy Adison, that’s making the sponsors real proud. Look for Salad Days to come out in the next month or so.

Regular Joe Rides in the Olympic Torch Relay

Joe_distThis Saturday, January 23rd saw our Regular Joe Schwartz carry the Olympic torch as the relay passed through his home town of Nelson, BC. Not only did Joe get to keep the fancy gas filled torch, but he also got to keep his disco-ready jumpsuit and mitts. What a deal! All that and a lifetime of fame, what more could you ask for?

Josh Button and The Aussie Champs

Josh Button and the 2010 Australian National mountain bike Championships, Eagle Park, Adelaide, Australia.

The Aussie champs have been awarded to the Eagle Mountain bike park facility in Adelaide for the next 3 years. Although I love coming to Radelaide the only downer about this place was that in previous years the Eagle bike park downhill track has never been a good, fun track. This year Gary Patterson and his company trailscape have got world cup rider and great mate of mine Will Rischbieth onboard to help them turn the downhill track into something techy, fun and exciting.

The Gusinator

Caveman-webThis is Magnus.  We call him the Gus Man but, more often, just Gus.  He’s the dudey, and I’m the daddy. Gus woke up from a restless nap sometime during his 20th month, bent it toward the garage, and hopped on his little balance bike–that summer day he really did it for the first time: he rode all by himself. He’s been striding-riding for a few months now, and he’s so good at it.  He even commutes to his sitter’s place, taking his stuff off-road along the half-mile commute, in the dark and rain. The dudey rides, and the daddy has to run!  Kona needs to keep up, too.  Let’s get a new model in the line-up.  I’ve got a perfect product-tester in mind….

420 Miles of Hei Hei 29

This comes from Scott aka “Lumberjack”, based out BikeWorks of Lake Stevens, Washington, a beauty bike shop up in the PNW.

“420+ miles on it since early October 2009. This bike has handled every thing I have tackled with it. I ride here in the Pacific Northwest from the north sound southward. Dry and dusty on a few trips and wet, rooty, muddy and technical most of the last couple of months. Feels very well balanced after you tune your suspension for your body weight and type of riding. Our riding is XC / All Mountain.  Climbs like a ” Beast ” and once pointed down the mountain it just flat out ” Hauls The Mail.”  The new 15mm front axle on the Fox fork has helped stiffen the frontend up. This is my 3rd Hei Hei 29. Had the 08 and 09 and started with the Kula DeLuxe 29 hardtail when they were introduced. Personally I think this is Kona’s best offering yet in the 29′r category. You can pretty much tell how I feel about the bike by the sticker on the seat stay!”

White Style Winter Slopestyle Contest in Leogang, Austria: Final Rider List and Course Details

White Style 2010 course_last KickerOne week left until the fifth anniversary of the White Style presented by Kona turns Leogang into world’s freeride Mecca. The confirmed list of riders and course details are promising best slopestyle action on Friday, January 29th.

Darren Berrecloth, Cam McCaul, Jamie Goldman, Martin Soederstroem, Sam Pilgrim, Sam Reynolds, Yannick Granieri, Amir Kabbani or Jan Toth are just a few riders that take the unique winter slopestyle challenge.

Kona Clump team rider Grant Fielder promises to present a course built out of snow that is even better than last year: A start section with two different parallel drops (a high one and a lower one with a kicker on it), followed by two massive doubles made completely of snow, but also featuring a second wooden kicker for the ones who prefer a shorter transition to throw down big tricks. The second half of the course begins with a decent step up to roller and kicker step down combination, just like a fruit bowl, which is not too big, but provides the perfect speed for a more challenging satellite dish step up step down combo that guarantees some more airtime for big tricks. The most spectacular obstacle is the final big hitter, which marks the end of the course: A huge snowboard big air style kicker shooting following riders into Leogang’s sky:

It’s Lumberjack Time

Picture 15For most of us in the northern hemisphere, it’s still damn cold out. Time for big ol’ fires, chopping down stuff to burn, burning stuff, getting dirty, being tough. You know lumberjack action. And there ain’t no way no how mo betta to get dirty, gnarly and otherwise woodsy than by strapping on the Kona Lumberjack jacket. Like you, its rough yet refined. Warm but nimble. Cool but hot. Go get one before summer comes around and you get to wear nothing but lame, boring T-shirts.

In the past year, Moveable Feast has delivered 624,000 meals to more than 850 clients (people who live in poverty with HIV/AIDS or breast cancer) as well as 26,000 meals to drop-in centers of affiliated organizations. 4,800 volunteers from many diverse civic organizations contributed over 22,000 hours of service, equivalent to over $200,000 in salary. 25,000 passengers were moved in 6,800 trips to their medical and social service appointments.

Go here to find out more about their first event/fundraiser showcasing the Ute. Just so happens to be at the CX My Heart and Superbowl of Single Speed CX Race that Proteus puts on each year. Big ups Jill!
