The Kona Oktoberfest – UK MTB Event

OktoberFestThe Kona BikeFest MTB race is one of the biggest enduro events in the UK, and for 2010 we are excited to announce a second event at the infamous Bristol venue. The Kona Oktoberfest takes the winning BikeFest formula, with added Bavarian twists for both competitors and spectators.

The Oktoberfest is a one day event which will take place on Saturday the 16th October, with some first class racing followed with some chilling and partying after the event. The Oktoberfest will have an 8 hour event as well as two 4 hour events. This should give everybody the chance to find the perfect lengths for their final MTB event of the season.
All three events we will have solo, pairs and teams of 3-4 rider categories – all available in Teams Open, Team Old Gits (average age of riders needs to be 40+ years) and Single Speed.

So if you’re looking for the perfect end to the 2010 events season, check out the Kona Oktoberfest. http://www.bike-fest.com/

Jake the Snake Used in iPad/iPhone Magazine

While a Jake the Snake is featured in this online magazine as a prop in how not to get your bike stolen (because everyone knows that getting a Kona ripped off is akin to having a loved one abducted), what’s most impressive is the magazine viewer itself. Take a spin into what might be the future of magazine publishing.

Leogang’s Out of Bounds Festival June 24th to 27th

Andreu Lacondeguy_26Trix 2009_Leogang_by AleDiLullo-5115_smallThe Leogang Bikepark hosts the Out of Bounds Festival, Austria’s biggest freeride mountain bike event, for the seventh year in row. From June 24th to 27th a unique combination of mountain bike competitions is waiting for the freeride fans: the iXS European DH Cup, the legendary 26TRIX dirt jump contest as well as the grand final of the brand new Euro Fourcross Series.

The fifth anniversary of the 26TRIX promises best dirt jump action in the center of Europe. The 26TRIX has always been pushing the trick level forward since its first edition in 2006, when Gregg Watts was the first one to nail a double backflip during an international competition ever. The xxl-sized jumps that had been added to the 26TRIX course last year guarantee massive airtime that has not been seen often before. Only a few of the pros from all over the world took the chance of this second line last year: Graham Aggassiz (CAN), Andreu Lacondeguy (ESP), Greg Watts (USA), Pierre Eduard Ferry (FRA), Darren Berrecloth (CAN), Sam Pilgrim (GBR) or Simon Kirchmann (GER). Let’s see who takes the challenge in 2010. The 26TRIX is part of the Freeride Mountain Bike (FMB) World Tour this year and therefore the biggest names will be invited to Leogang. In the past, most of the big players in the global scene had already taken the chance to join the 26TRIX: Grant Fielder (GBR), Jamie Goldman (USA), Trond Hansen (NOR), Darren Pokoj (AUS), Cam McCaul (USA), Benny Korthaus (GER), Alex Pro (CAN), Martin Söderström (SWE), or Yannick Granieri (FRA) to name only some.

Jo Burt – Drive, Ride, Sleet, Repeat… (Curry + Beer)

Unit150Wake at 5.30am, in the car by 6.30am, drive for two and a half hours, race for 4+ hours, drive home for two and a half hours with possibly a nap in a service-station car-park, dump filthy bike and race kit in the house and hobble up the road for a restorative curry and beers. Such is my Sunday timetable for the Whyte Winter Series hosted by Thetford MTB Racing, a quartet of mountainbike races from November through to January based in the flat lands of Norfolk, chose from a two hour sprint or a four hour slog. To keep the driving/riding ratio almost sane I have to do the 4hr enduro.
