H.G. Wells. This Guy Was a Dude

Not only did he write War of the Worlds but was known for this great quote: “When I see an adult on a bicycle, I do not despair for the future of the human race.”
For sure a dude.

Ryan Trebon 4th at Cross Vegas

The action was fast and heavy at this year’s Cross Vegas race. Unlike last year where a break away pack maintained their lead for a relatively uneventful finish, this year’s race saw Kona Factory Cyclocross Team rider Ryan Trebon leading several laps, followed by James Driscoll doing the same up to the final lap where the pack chased to finally reel him back in.

We counted the gaps Driscoll had each lap with Trebon chasing, the first one was 20 seconds, the next 14, then 15 and for the final lap when the heat was on it was only 7, with half a lap to go. It was game on. The pace picked up to see the fastest of the pack catch Driscoll just before a sprint to the finish line.

Trebon put in an amazing effort, but was overcome near the line. The race was won by French champion Francis Mourey, followed by James Driscoll, Gerben De Knegt and Ryan Trebon in 4th. Barry Wicks worked hard in the tough, international field and came in 25th. Good job boys.

Thanks to Peter Butt for the photos and our mates from Speedway Cycles, Anchorage AK for making us the loudest cheering section at the whole show.

Life Cycles Las Vegas Premier – A new bar has been set

Before you can fully appreciate the gravity of a movie like Life Cyles, you should warm up with something like a giant Margarita from the mexi joint at the Palms followed by lime flavor Bud Light at Bourdo’s truck in the parking lot.

Here is a very blurry and terrible shot of Robbie Bourdon, my neighbor and former Kona Clump rider, enjoying one such margarita before the said Bud Light session in preparation for the events to come.

Very soon after this photo was taken, we headed to the Life Cycles premier at the Palms and proceeded to have our minds blown.

I was in so much awe, my jaw was unable to shut for a solid two hours. A new bar has been set.

Congratulations to Derek Frankowski and Ryan Gibb for delving so deep and redefining what is mountain bike movie making. Hell, even movie making in general.

Oh yeah, by the way, Kona Clump rider Aggy’s session was dope, it stole the show. But that’s for you to decide once you see the movie.

Why Kona No Vegas?

Las Vegas – September 20: If you’re in Las Vegas this week for the Interbike show, or sitting by your computer for the latest info on what’s new from the show, you might be wondering, “Where’s Kona”?

Well, the short answer is, we’re working away like usual, just not in Las Vegas this year. Kona’s been at the Interbike show every year since it started in 1988, but not this time. Fact is, timing is too late for us. You’ve already seen all our new bikes on www.konaworld.com since we launched them on August 9. Since then, we’ve had an in-house event on our home trails on Galbraith Mountain in Bellingham, Washington with our top US dealers in mid-August. We had a great “back to the source” show at Eurobike in Friedrichshaven, Germany at the beginning of September, and just finished up the Expocycle show in Montreal, Canada.

If you’re looking for an opportunity to test some of the new 2011 bikes in the near future, come check us out at Outerbike in Moab, Utah from September 30 – October 3, and also at NEMBAFest in Bear Brook, New Hampshire, October 9 -10.

So, for all of you who loved coming by to the Kona Interbike Booth and hanging out with our eclectic crew of sales reps, designers, marketeers and athletes, we’re real sorry it didn’t work out. Looks like we’ll be back next year since Interbike has changed the dates.

Until then, enjoy the ride! (And watch out for those Vegas induced shame-spirals…they’ll gitcha!)

Cross Season is On Like Donkey Kong

Trebon Takes Second at Starcrossed and Simms Second Place at StarCrossed and Rad Racing GP

The men started their 60-minute StarCrossed race under the dark evening skies at the King County’s Marymoor Park and Velodrome. The event marked the first of eight rounds in the North American Cyclo-cross Trophy (NACT) series.

Among the stellar line up was Francis Mourey, Trebon(KONA FSA) and Chrisitan Huele, plus Page, Barry Wicks (KONA-FSA), Troy Wells, Derrick St-John, Adam Craig and Geoff Kabush. Noticeably absent from the field was the Cannondale-Cyclorossworld.com trio who were competing in various other races around the country including the USA Cycling Pro Championships held in Greenville, South Carolina.
