Seattle Women & Kona Donate AfricaBikes to Children in Gambia
/?php if ( is_archive() || is_search() ) : Only display excerpts for archives and search. ?> /?php the_excerpt(); ?> /?php else : ?>“Two Seattle women and Kona are giving African children the gifts of independence and opportunity.
Barbara Trenary and Sandy Murray just returned from Gambia, where they delivered 225 donated bicycles to school children. Many students there walk miles to school. There is no public transportation. Many of the students, especially girls, have to quit school at a young age to instead help their families. Their HopeFirst organization raised funds for 150 bikes, and Kona donated the other 75 as part of our 2 for 1 program.
The bikes cut the students’ commute time, allowing them to continue their education and still have time to help out at home.”

5th Place in World Cup for Helen Wyman
/?php if ( is_archive() || is_search() ) : Only display excerpts for archives and search. ?> /?php the_excerpt(); ?> /?php else : ?>
Following a week long training camp in Rimini, Italy, Helen has finished round 2 of the World Cup in 5th place. Taking place in Plzen, Czech Republic, it was first World Cup for women at this venue.
/?php endif; ?>
Confident of a solid ride coming into the event, Helen made a good start from the front row. Daphny van den Brand made her customary charge on the first lap and stretched the field out through the first pit. Sanne van Passen was the only rider able to follow the early pace and she was soon on Daphny’s wheel.
Local favourite Katerina Nash was with Helen during the first lap, and together they moved forward a few places before Nash set about closing the gap to the front. However with Daphny keeping the pressure on at the front, it wasn’t to be a home win for Nash.
