House of the Big Wheel – Episode 2 Coming Soon

Here’s a little tease from our upcoming House of the Big Wheel video – Episode 2, featuring the 2012 King Kahuna and Hei Hei 29 Supreme. We spent three spectacular days in the BC backcountry shooting team riders Barry Wicks and Spencer Paxson riding the IMBA Epic Seven Summits Trail near Rossland, BC. Here’s one of the heli shots from photographer Derek Frankowski. Look for the banger edit to drop in the next few weeks. Helen Reports in From Koksijde and Gieten

There was defiantly a feeling of the day after Koksijde in my legs as I pre-rode the course for the SuperPrestige in Gieten. It’s the first time I’ve been there for about 5 seasons and the course is very different to the epic course used for World Championships in the past. Koksijde involved a lot of running as well as power in the very loose sand. With more than 400km’s in the van directly after, my legs didn’t feel exactly fresh.

To be honest I was pretty happy the Gieten course was somewhat easier than the last time I rode it, although the near storm force winds weren’t particularly helpful. When mixed with the rain it felt like a real cross race in terms of the conditions for the first time since the Gloucester GP nearly 2 months ago.

With Vos on the start again and a long road section it was always going to get going very quickly. I was 2nd off the road and settled into the lead group of 4 riders. I think everyone was feeling a bit of fatigue but after a lap, the race was at full pace and the 4 of us pulled away from the chasing group. On lap three of five, I lost contact with the back of the group by about 20 metres, but held that gap. Sanne van Paassen had a slip going onto a pave section of the course and came back to me while Vos and Daphny battled it out for the lead. Read More

Mitch Delfs Reports From the Asia Pacific Downhill Championships

The past weekend I was invited to the Asia Pacific Downhill Challenge near Jakarta by the great people from Shimano. As soon as I landed I was looked after so well by the great people running the show, they showed me around and we checked out the city and the sights.
The first day up we all headed out to the press conference, which was super cool, meeting all the other riders and talking to the press and doing a bunch of interviews. It was a good experience and it is what all downhill races should be doing.

The next day was first time we saw the race track. It was a new track for this race and as we walked it the first impressions were good. I did think the bottom was flat until my first run down when the bottom ended up being pretty fun and flowy, up top was cool though with some drops and a few cool jumps and some hard turns. Justin Graves – Collegiate Mountain Bike DH Nationals

Had a wild trip to our Collegiate Nationals this time last week in Angelfire New Mexico. Tons of snow and freezing temps made things very interesting. 4th this year on an icy downhill, out in quarter final of soupy dual eliminated by the eventual champ. Attached are a few pics that give the flavor of the trails. Here is a video of helmet cams of the DH course, its worth a gander was more like bobsledding at some points.

Thanks for the support.

Bicycling Magazine; Editor’s Choice for 2012′s Best New Mountain Bikes

The Vancouver-bred brand has a long history of producing top-selling DH and freeride bikes, but had lost its mojo recently. It hopes to change that and wrestle back some market share with its new Entourage, a freeride/park platform that is well suited for shuttle runs and gravity parks like Whistler.

With 170mm of travel, the bike is plush, yet remains nimble thanks to short 16.3mm chainstays. Oversize pivot bearings withstand heavy abuse while also adding some lateral rigidity. The bike uses a massive 17mm main pivot and the linkage pivots use to rows of bearings to increase stiffness and eliminate binding. The Entourage comes in two models. The Entourage Deluxe show here costs $4,100 and weighs 37 pounds (size large); the standard Entourage sells for $2,800 and tips the scales at 37.5 pounds.

BikeWorks of Lake Stevens, WA Rides the Satori: “This bike climbs like an XC bike and descends like a DH bike”

Personal changes to bike so far:

Shimano M424 pedals

frame tape and wrapped chainstay

WTB Rocket V saddle

Geax Saguaro 29 2.2 tires with Project 321 anodized Stan’s ZTR rims running as tubeless with rear tire turned in the traction direction. I switched the stock wheels out because I build wheels for a living. Hence the rolling billboard. Read More
