Jim Brown reports from the Kona supported Revel Consulting/Rad Racing NW team: On June 23rd in abysmal conditions, 14 year old Erik Pitkanen and 16 year old Kyle Sweeney took on the 6 hours of Capital Punishment MTB race and won the overall 2 person category. Yes….. these youngsters slayed all in the “unofficial 6 hr world championships”. Under such conditions the tread of choice was Schwalbe Nobby Nic’s in respective 26 and 29 versions. Weapons of choice for bikes were Custom Rad Kula 26” Hardtail(Erik) and Hei Hei 29r(Kyle). Nice work boys.
On the same rainy weekend the State Championship Road Race was contested. Scott Funston took time off of his mountain bike to win the Boys 10-12 Gold Medal. Lewis Whiley and Wyatt Mason took Silver and Bronze respectively in the Boys 13/14 race. In the hotly contested Boys 15/16 race team strategy paid off with Revel/Rad able to neutralize some very strong riders, Tyler Tangen took the Silver medal for the efforts.
