Antoine Bizet at Rampage – Photos by Gibby

Most of the freeride/Kona universe knows by now that 19-year-old French phenom Antoine Bizet surprised the mountain bike world last Sunday by placing 2nd at the Red Bull Rampage. Our long-time friend and one of the world’s best cycling photographers John Gibson was there and sent these sweet pics in for us to share with the world. Here’s the Gallery. Thanks Gibby, and congratulations once again Bizzy!

The Most Badass of Bikes – the Kona Honzo

Long Term Test by Riley McIntosh: I’m sure most people who regularly use the internet have witnessed the ridiculous Honey Badger video on Youtube.

This video really caught my attention because it proposed that the Honey Badger just may be the most badass of all animals. When I was a kid we would often play the game of ‘If you could be any animal what would you be?’ And although we often referenced Tigers, Dinosaurs, Sharks, and Wolverines, nobody ever mentioned the Honey Badger.

In the video we see the Honey Badger tearing around the landscape like a true Bat out of Hell, with the video culminating in the Badger attempting to eat a venomous snake, being bitten, essentially ‘dying’ for awhile, coming back to life, and finishing its meal. It doesn’t get much more badass then that.

Now, Last Christmas I moved to Vancouver Island for a fresh start. I was quite clear with myself on my goals and intentions: work full time, live simple, and ride as much as possible, before work, night rides after work, weekends, whatever it took.

I needed a bike that was up to the job. A bike that didn’t have much in the way of fancy gadgets, complex linkages, or bushings regularly in need of upkeep. read more

Laajavuori Bikepark Finland- Grant Fielder Returns

2 weeks ago i received a phone call asking if i wanted to go over to Finland for the annual Nasse ride event hosted at the Kona Bike Park Laajavuori. With an early friday start i set off to Heathrow for my 3 hour flight to Helsinki followed by a 3 hour drive to Jyvaskyla.

The trip was a wet one for sure but to brighten things up i was lucky eneough to try out a fair amount of the 2013 bikes on display. I chose the Entourage, Mikko was on the operator and tapbeir (probably the coolest name in history, i called him beertap!) was shredding Konas latest member of the family the Process. Despite the weather we managed to get in plenty of runs and certainly didn’t care about the mud and rain. We were filming out there so expect to see more info on the trip shortly.
Peace.

Kona Wheelbase Grassroots Update

The Farley brothers Kona Grassroots Wheelbase.co.uk team headed to Llangollen in North Wales for the series finals of the six round British Downhill Series. Dan was looking for an improvement after just missing out on a podium finish at the previous two rounds and needed a good result to keep hold of second place for the series overall. Andy was aiming for a top ten finish.

Arriving at the track early on Saturday it was clear that Martin and his crew at onegiantleap had put in a lot of hard work to build a completely new track that included the Llangollen trademark steep turns, some technical off camber root sections, a couple of shortish pedally sections and some tables, doubles and hip jumps.

Read More
