Kona Spring Ads Spectacular Pt. 1

Here is version one of our new MinUte bike ad. See this in the April issue of Bicycle Times. Shot on a beautiful, sunny fall day by Sherpas Cinema’s Dave Mossop in Portland, Oregon and featuring Kona Team enduro racer Matt Slaven and his unbelievably cute daughter Zoe.

I’m wondering if you know of an infant seat that can be installed at the back of the minute (so not off the seat post, but rather off the deck itself), so that a small child (4 yrs old) can ride in front and an even smaller one behind (2 yrs old)? I’ve looked and there’s enough space (though it will be cozy)…. thanks for any help.

    Hi Michaela,
The Xtracycle PeaPod III works great on the Minute. http://www.xtracycle.com/cargo-bicycles/xtracycle-cargo-accessories/kids-and-family/peapod-iii.html
I use this setup with my kids, and they love it.

Hi! I’m trying to decide between the Kona Ute and MinUte. Here is my situation:
I’ve got 2 year old twins and a hill to get back home. Commute is 4 miles, and pre-school is conveniently mid-commute. I need a bike that can handle twins on the back. I test rode the MinUte yesterday and really liked it. There is no Ute locally to test ride. If I can make the MinUte work, it seems like smaller = easier to handle & lighter, so the MinUte would work better for me than the Ute.
    1) Several reviews complained about the disc brakes on the MinUte. Have these been changed from the 2011 model or can I just upgrade to the Avid when I order the bike?
    2) Loading 2 squirming kids on the back – is it possible to get a center stand for the MinUte?
    3) At 24″ it is 4″ shorter than the xtracycle deck. Do you think it is possible to get 2 peapods on the back?
    4) If not possible to get 2 peapods on back, I can make some seats with harnesses for them out of wood, it seems like this actually might be a little safer as it would keep their weight lower than the peapods. Do you think there would be any weight stability issues with the MinUte having 2 kids?
    Thanks!

Hey there, sorry if it’s taken us a bit to get to this. Based on what you’re needing with the two kids we would want to point you in the direction of the Ute. It’s going to have the carrying capacity and stability you’re going to need. You can’t get two peapods on the MInUte, you most likely could on the Ute. As for center stands, we recommend checking with your local shop for an after-market upgrade. Hope that helps.

    Hi there,

We couldn’t get 2 peapods on the back of the minute but I went for it anyway, and my husband built a new deck for it that can hold 2 kids just fine.

Here’s a blog post with directions on how (see the bottom).

My kids are pretty light, so it’s all good. I can take my 8 and 2 year olds, or 5 and 2 year olds, but we can’t go far with the 8 and 5 year olds back there – I think they add enough weight that it doesn’t handle as well (about 80 pounds).

    Hope this helps.
