Bicycling Magazine Reviews the 2017 Sutra – “The Kona Sutra Will Make You Want to Quit Your Job”

“The Sutra is a dangerous bike—not because of any structural issues, but because it’ll make you want to ride out of your office on a Tuesday and keep pedaling until you’ve reached the opposite coast.” – Caitlin Giddings

In Bicycling magazine’s April Buyers Guide issue and online they have published a solid review of Kona’s venerable touring bike, the Sutra. It’s very clear that reviewer Caitlin Giddings well and truly gets this bike.

Brooklyn’s El Puente High School Cycling Club Goes Bike Touring

Brooklyn, New York can be an intimidating place to ride a bike, with tons of traffic and roads filled with pedestrians, construction and potholes. For the uninitiated, it can be overwhelming. The El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice in Williamsburg Brooklyn recognized this and in 2012, founded the El Puente Cycling Club through a program grant administered by the Bike to School program of the NYC Dept. of Transportation.

Rides started in the gym, teaching basic lessons of cycling and safety. Since those days five years ago, rides made it outside, and got longer and longer. As their rides and aspirations grew, the El Puente Cycling Club received a Neighborhood Schools Grant from the Wallentas Family Foundation to purchase touring bikes and gear. Joe Nocella at 718 Cyclery selected the best bikes and gear to start their program. The cycling club purchased six fully-outfitted Kona Sutra touring bikes for their ever-expanding adventures, and are planning to ride From Brooklyn to Washington, DC this fall to the annual Youth Bike Summit.

Congratulations El Puente Cycling Club – enjoy the new bikes!
