Passion and dedication were the two main ingredients this past weekend as Team H&R BLOCK-KONA had all the right ingredients on Sunday, August 16th to bring home gold medals and provincial championships in both BC and Alberta on the same day. Unofficially, it is believed that this might be the first time that one team that has won both provincial championships on the same day.
In BC, Team H&R BLOCK-KONA rider Cyrus Kangarloo got in the early 10 man break at about 30 km into the road race (4 from Trek Red Truck – Vukets, Britton, Hamilton, Trace; 3 from Garneau Evolution – Sidic, Skinner, Thompson), Tim Sherstobitoff (Total Restoration) and Sebastian Salas. With about 27 kms to go, Cyrus soloed away from the break to win the BC provincial road championships!
In Alberta Team H&R BLOCK – KONA rode strong as a team to place riders 1st, 2nd and 4th in the Alberta Provincial Championship road race. Strong competition from Tim Heemskirk (United Cycle) and Paul Tichelaar(ERTC) made for an aggressive race. Team H&R BLOCK-KONA rider Robin Baillie took an impressive solo break away win with Chris McNeil following in 2nd and Mark MacDonald in 4th.
This caps off a couple of very strong race performances for the Team over the past few weeks. In recent weeks, the Team also positioned Mark MacDonald to take the win at both the Alberta Provincial Criterium Championships and the Alberta Track Championships.
