Thrills, Spills and Chills and Kona’s Luau Launch in Bellingham, Washington

This past Monday and Tuesday, the Kona Luau saw over 70 shops from across the country convene in sunny Bellingham, Washington for an action packed two days of bike riding, information sharing and straight up good times. Top priority, of course, was getting everyone out on the trail. The 2012 Operator and all-new Entourage hit the flowy, air-laden gravity trails of North Fork, while a veritable army of Hei Hei 29 Supremes, King Kahunas, Honzos, Cadabras, and Satoris blazed the technically blessed maze of singletrack up on Galbraith Mountain. Smack dab in the middle lay the Makena Challenge, a hard-fought dual through slick concrete, basketball hoops and mega-phone heckling at Kona USA Headquarters.

With great prizes from Sram and Shimano, schwag packs loaded with Muc-Off, Stanley flasks and Clif Bar goodies, glorious sun, marvelous dirt, and smooth riding bikes, graced by cool, tall PBRs, we’re officially qualifying the first phase of the Luau a smashing success. Right now we’re busy tuning the bikes and re-loading the coolers for Phase 2. It’s a tough job keeping up with our beautifully diverse and wonderfully passionate network of Kona Dealers, but somebody’s got to do it.
