UK Grassroots Thomas Mitchell 2nd UKGE round 4

_DSC5531Thomas reports: Last weekend saw me compete at the UK Gravity Enduro round 4 at Dyfi in Wales. Dyfi is a great venue and it promised to be one of the best races of the series so far. The loop involved a great mix of both technically and physically challenging stages linked together with long and seemingly endless fire road climbs.

Seeding for the race on Sunday was held on Saturday afternoon on stage 5 of the course. I took it really steady and came home 4th only 2 seconds back from first so it was all to play for on sunday. After some heavy rain overnight I was all set for the days racing. Stage 1 went really well, I was able to push pretty hard on the pedally sections and took the stage win by over 7 seconds, even beating Enduro World Series racer Dan Atherton by over a second. Stage 2 was less suited to my riding strengths but I got through it clean and took 4th. Onto stage 3 which was all trail centre based, this was another stage I knew would play to my advantage. I took the stage win by 2 seconds. Stage 4 was the one most talked about the whole weekend, it was one of the most technical stages of the series with exposed roots and steep mud ruts. Much to my surprise I was able to take 2nd on the stage and keep myself in the running for a good overall result. The final stage was the same stage raced on the saturday for seeding, I took it real easy as I wanted to finish well. I took 7th on the stage.

Overall I was able to take 2nd in the senior category with a time that would have put me 8th in elite for the weekend.

I rode the Kona Process 153DL for its UK Gravity Enduro debut and it did me proud taking its and my first podium at this series. Thanks to Kona Bikes, Hart’s Cyclery, SweetProtection, FiveTen UK, HIGH5 Sports nutrition, Renthal, EVOC and e13 for their support this year. Onto the Scottish Enduro champs this weekend!
