Richmond Cycling Corps, then nation’s premier inner-city youth cycling/outreach program, recently started a summer travel program. Each month through the summer a cadre of youth, who all reside within Richmond’s public housing neighborhoods, get the opportunity to travel to far-off places for the sake of expanding their world….aboard their Kona bicycles. Our July trip was focused on ‘adventure’ style riding: Dirt roads, single track, gravel, pavement, no maps, just exploring along Virginia’s Northern Neck/Chesapeake Bay area. We stay in cabins or camp for each trip– replacing video games and TV, with campfires, camaraderie, and of course smores. Here are some pics from our recent trip to Westmoreland St. Park.
