Kona’s AfricaBike Program has taken on a project slightly different than the traditional adult-focused AfricaBike model of which we’ve donated some 3,000 units around the world. Partnering with A Better World Canada, we’ve designed kids specific bike for children in rural Kenya, some of whom must commute up to 14 kilometres one way to school. Over 500 bikes will be donated to the primary school in 2012. Stay tuned to the Cog for updates on the project. In the meantime, check out the prototype, built to be simple, stable and super fun. We can’t wait until the day we get to give them to the kids.
