We are excited to announce a new inititave at Kona: our women’s mountain bike coaching program. In an ongoing effort to bring more women into the sport we are teaming up with our athletes and ambassadors to help them develop their coaching skills. We are working with select ambassadors and athletes across North America by offering to cover their costs to achieve their Professional Mountain Bike Instructors Association certifications.

I want to expand our reach towards getting more girls and women on bikes, and more confident on bikes. I’d love to see more programs across the world, more coaches, more relatable role models etc. This program is designed to support the growth and presence of women in mountain biking. We, as coaches, can create safe and welcoming environments for women to have positive experiences in honing their skills, connecting with our cycling community, and provide opportunities for them that they otherwise would have a difficult time accessing.” -Shae James, Kona Marketing Assistant and founder of the program

The first event we’re supporting is with ambassador Jo Peters and will be based at the Coast Gravity Park in British Columbia! Jo’s event is is an all day women’s event at the Coast Gravity Park with all women instructors. They will set up a 1:6 ratio and will work with any riding level or goal. The goals are to increase confidence, learn new skills and shred together in a supportive environment! Kona will be on hand with goodies and support so be sure to check it out!
