It was a long, muscly day for Stage 4 of the BC Bike Race. Today saw a quintet of the top GC contenders stick together almost all day, with relatively little separation until the final climb. Kris defended the yellow jersey successfully, posting a wildly fast time on the final 6km descent on the legendary 102 trail and taking second place on the day behind Spencer. Once again, the day took place in Kris’s back yard, and he was the man to follow on the singletrack. Spencer, a bit softened from his mega Hail Mary effort in Stage 3, played it a bit more conservatively until the final ascent, where he dug for a few more seconds to erase his unfortunate deficit. All he got today was a few seconds, but that’s the right direction, with three hard days to go.
Going into Stage 5 in North Vancouver, the Kona boys are all sitting strong in the top-5.
