Although the Shonky first appeared in the Kona lineup back in 2009, dirt jump hardtails have been part of our legacy for over two decades, during which time they’ve been pushed to the limit by the biggest names in freeride history. For 2019, the Shonky re-emerges in Kona custom drawn 4130 Cromoly Steel. Here Graham Agassiz and Soren Farenholtz give the updated frame their seal of approval as they ride under the lights of the Kamloops Bike Ranch with their friend Liam Bayliss.
Aggy’s Shonky is a size long and is sporting SRAM XO cranks, a Pike DJ fork and Novatec Demon 26″ hoops shod with a Maxxis Icon up front and a Maxxis DTH out back. The cockpit is comprised of Aggy’s custom Kore handlebar and a 50mm Kore stem and Sensus Swayze grips, the saddle is Kore’s Rivera Pivotal saddle and the build is rounded out with HT’s ME05 Pedals.
Soren Farenholtz also rides a long Shonky, growing up under Aggy’s tutorship in Kamloops you’ll see his bike closely resembles that of his idol. SRAM XO Cranks, Rock Shox Pike DJ and Novatec wheels with matching Icons and DTHs. Soren’s Shonky departs from Aggy’s when you reach the cockpit where his bike is almost exclusively built with Chromag parts, a Ranger stem, OSX bars, an Overture saddle and Wax grips wrap things up.
