“If you’re lucky enough to be in the mountains, you’re lucky enough.”

I just returned from a nine day streak of coaching camps and guiding young gaffers at Sun Peaks Reosrt, and this little saying I saw recently is the most succinct summary that comes to mind.

While I was at Sun Peaks I rode with kids in the park from the crack of dawn till mid afternoon. And when the sun was high in the sky and the “work day” was done I ate a snuck off to turn my pedals in the alpine trails. My Operator was making the mountain feel like a molehill and my Process allowed me to go further into the forests of Tod Mountain than I’d ever been before.

I saw eagles and bears and foxes playing tag with deer. I didn’t meet any owls, but I met a lot of amazing kids who were aspiring shredders with big smiles and big cycling dreams. I had a lot of fun making them laugh and showing them how to push harder on the trails while being safe and smart at the same time.

I can’t say thanks enough to Sun Peaks Resort for allowing me the chance to share my passion for bikes with kids from all around the province, and for making me so comfortable while I do so. I’m heading out to take it a little easier, ride a little harder, and enjoy some more lucky days in the mountains.
