Helen Wyman (Kona) notched up her eighth National Championship title in nine years when she demolished the field to win the 2014 title race in Derby on Sunday.
Having won every race from 2006-2012, Wyman was beaten by rival Nikki Harris (Young Telenet Fidea CT) last year and was determined to regain her crown.
And she did it in style, crossing the line more than a minute clear of Harris, with third-placed Ffion James (Abergavenny RC) being 4-30 behind and finishing as first junior after a strong performance.
But Wyman and Harris were a class apart, and had already put daylight into their rivals after just a few corners of the opening lap. It wasn’t long before Wyman started to pull clear, and she powered on to leave Harris to settle for second.
