Round 2 of the Irish XC NPS was held last Saturday 10th of May in Ticknock Forest, Dublin. It’s been a long time since there has been an XC race on a Saturday in Ireland however as it was the weekend that the Giro was coming to town the organizers felt that it would be bad form to be racing while the Pro riders like Nico Roche sprint down our fair streets….so Saturday racing it was. MBW-KONA Racing had 2 riders competing, Leah Maunsell in U16 ladies and Joseph Clancy in U16 Men. Leah this race had no other ladies in her class so she focused on racing the men in the same category. She of course won the ladies and finished 5th in the men’s as well, making it a very good race for her, gaining speed and experience racing against faster and stronger men.

Leah storming up the climb.

Joseph on the other hand just wasn’t feeling the racing vibe on Saturday and although he gave it his all and managed 6th, he was disappointed. Disappointment however should inspire him to train harder and perform at the level he expects from himself. Keep up the good work you two.

Saturday and Sunday saw the return of the Irish Cycle show, this year it was in Merrion Square in Dublin City centre where the Giro was also finishing. Mbw bike shop of Moycullen, Co Galway, Cycleways of Dublin City and KONA through DAN and JIM hosted the KONA stand at the show.

26 Kona bikes were on display including the lightest Mtb at the show, the most expensive bike at the show and amazingly 3 Ti (Titanium) bikes.

The Irish weather played its part to, tee-shirt weather one minute and rain jackets the next but this did not deter folk from coming to the show and drowling over our bikes,
Saturday through traffic was good but Sunday was amazing, there were always people at the stall, lots of chat about the Process range, Garry’s Rove and of course the WO our Fat bike.

Team Mbw-KONA riders were there in support to with Shona D’arcy making an appearance on the Saturday and Michelle, Leah, Jonathan and Liz there on the Sunday. Neil was also there on the Sunday working the stand alongside Garry and the team all day.

The Giro train rocked through a around 4pm which gave those working a break as all the crowds hit the street to see the race as did some of our riders……
Jonathan trying to get the best views possible.

Michelle’s day was made when she spotted Sean Kelly and after a few minutes of building up courage to ask for a photo she went for it, can you see the excitement in her face…..
Overall it was a very positive weekend, everybody had good fun and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere set by Jim and Dan who were a hoot all weekend.

Round 2 of the National Gravity Enduro league next weekend so all eyes down till Saturday morning then its eyeballs out racing for the weekend, Massive thanks to Jim and Dan for making the show as memorable as it was, GrRANA Energy Europe for hooking us up with endless energy tonic for the weekend, Kona bikes for making awesome machines and to MBW bike shop for getting us to where we are today…..a sweet little team.
