I don’t know about you but that 2015 Shonky paint job has to be one of my all-time favorites. Turns out Mooresville, NC local Adam Schaffer liked it too, and he picked this one up second hand and set about building this stunning DJ bike. Originally from Ohio, Adam rode bmx for a long time before making the switch over to MTB.

“The build started off from my want for a Shonky even before I purchased my first DJ a few years back. I have ridden a Kona Process 134 since 2017 when I got back into MTB and fell in love with it. I wanted a lighter DJ than my current setup so I went with an AL. I ended up finding a frame for sale locally and built it up pretty quickly.”
The build started with the Industry Nine hubs laced to Stans Flow hoops. The wheels are then wrapped in Maxxis DTH wire bead skin walls.
Adam had a set of XT Cranks laying around from another build that he mated with a 32t Niner Super Light chain ring and XT bottom bracket. The rear cog is a 17t Halo super thick cog. All put down through a Shadow Conspiracy Half Link Chain.
Fork is a Manitou Circus Expert set at 100mm.
The cockpit is kicked off with a Cane Creek 40 headset which is complemented with Wolftooth headset spacers in gold, and Niner’s classic YRWYD (Your Ride What You Drink) bottle cap top cap with a New Belgium brewing gold bike. The Trutativ stem holds  80mm riser bars from Deity. DMR Deathgrips and a Shimano Deore brake round things out.
Shimano Deore brakes with a 160mm rotor provide all the stopping power needed.
DMR V8 pedals, Raceface seat post, and a Signature Chromag Overture saddle complete Adam’s build.
An aftermarket Kona 3oth Birthday head badge ads that final bit of flair. Get yours here.
