Josh’s rasta-inspired Honzo ESD has been sitting patiently in the Kona Dream Build queue for a while now. So long in fact that I think an apology is most definitely in order. Sorry, Josh. But I’m not sorry to the rest of you, cos’ now you finally get to see this very cool Honzo ESD build.

“I’ve been loving hardtails and had dreamed of owning a truly hardcore hardtail like the ESD for a while. My mullet ESD was a semi-budget build. A good friend of mine had this frame for a build he wanted to do but changed gears and gave it to me in exchange for help with a few projects. I frame swapped from a Ragley Marley and changed out a few parts as needed to make this build as epic as possible while not breaking the bank. 90% of the parts are new take-offs or lightly used secondhand.

I’ve been enjoying riding it at Mt Bachelor Bike Park and the surrounding trails outside of Bend, Oregon. It definitely gets looks everywhere it goes.

Josh’s ESD utilizes a SRAM drivetrain. XX1 cranks are dressed with custom decals from Slik Graphics, out back you’ll find a SRAM Xo1 rear mech mated to a 32t Wolftooth oval chainring via a XX1 chain.

Crank Brothers Mallet DH Race pedals spin the cranks while SRAM Guide R brakes (Running MTX red label pads) with 200mm front and 180mm rear rotors slow things down.

The fork is a 2021 Fox 36 Performance Elite with 160mm travel and custom Slik Graphics decals.

The rear wheel is a 27.5 Sunringle Duroc 40, the front is a 29er WTB STi both have 2.6 specialized Eliminator tan wall tires and Muc-Off tubeless valves.

The cockpit is sporting a set of Renthal Fat Boy 35 carbon bars at 760mm with 30mm rise mated with a Renthal 50mm stem. You’ll also spot a Loam Lever (connected to PNW Components Loam 200mm dropper post) and a pair of  Loam grips, the Xo1 shifter has the upgraded with the  PNW Shifty lever equipped.

The build is rounded out with a Ergon SMC Sport Gel saddle and a Supacaz limited edition bottle cage that matches the frame.
