Sometimes, just sometimes, the crew at Kona Canada beat us to finding rad Kona Dream Builds,  this amazing Rove Build from Skookum Cycles in Revelstoke is one (seriously fine) case in point. The bike’s owner has always had a steel bike of some kind in his quiver and the versatile Rove ticked more than a few boxes. “The color is rad, and I really like that even though there are fancier frames from Kona (and others), the Rove ST suits a dream build just as much as it suits an everyday commuter spec.”

Now this description is new to us, but the Rove is sporting a Mullet drive train. Whats a mullet drive train? Well, it’s road shifters/crank up front and a party time MTB drivetrain out the back, in this case, SRAM AXS XO1.

The set up is flawless and the shifting is so crisp. The gearing with the 650B set up and the hills around Revy is perfect. I’m less concerned about race pace/weight/time than I am about comfort and fun.

The pedals are Look X-track titanium pedals – I wanted the option to wear my MTB shoes or a pair of sandals and didn’t want a weight penalty. The bottle cages are from Wolftooth as is the headset.

“I had originally planned a more modest build but after riding AXS on my MTB, I decided to got electronic on my gravel bike also.”

The cockpit is from Zipp with the highlight being the  XPLR handlebar, its wrapped in a the very fitting Supacaz gold star bar tape. I run this bike with an EVOC Boa handlebar bag, saddlebag, and frame bag. I don’t need more storage than that at the moment, but I like the extra mounting options on the Rove just in case.

27.5 / 650 with the Pirelli tires on Stan’s wheels is a super dependable set up.
