The rough-riding, rut-railing, rowdiest hardtail in all the land, behold Roger’s Kona Honzo ESD. No gadgets, no gears, and no shock – this steel frame, single speed hardtail appeals to even the most OG mountain bikers. Simplicity is indeed a timeless style.

Roger’s got no need for a 520% gear range, he’s got his ratio dialed and whatever it is, he wouldn’t tell us. The chainring and cog size are very induvial preferences that often manifest as closely held beliefs and personality traits. It’s like the secret ingredient for single-speeders.

Roger has, however, disclosed most of the other components on the bike. Those aggressive tires are the Vigilante 2.6 from Wilderness Trail Bikes (WTB), paired with WTB carbon CZR hoops…

…silver Industry Nine Hydra hubs, and the silver spokes and nipples tie the wheels together.

Jumping around to the other shiny silver parts we see on this all-mountain hardtail, the stem is the A318 from Industry Nine, but what are those bars…

…they might be instantly recognizable by some but unknown to most. They are the Smooth Move / Low Riser – designed by HunterCycles, facilitated by SimWorks, and made by Nitto – Japan.

A WTB saddle on top of a TranzX dropper post sporting even more silver.

As for the brakes, this extra slack hardtail rocks the Shimano Deore set.

The RockShox Lyrik Ultimate is the only suspension Roger needs, well besides his knees. The fork travel comes stock on the Honzo at 150mm but could go +,- 10mm in either direction.

Thanks for reading about our appreciation for Roger’s rig.
