Sometimes mysterious Kona Dream Builds just show up in my inbox. This beautiful Shonky is one of these, Kona Ambassador Tim DaCosta sent it through with the text, “Our mechanic here at Grass Roots Cycles built up a Shonky.” Luckily for us, it’s not that hard to piece together the build on a dirt jumper, (getting forensic on a gravel fender on the other hand). So let’s check out this stealthy yet serious build from Grand Junction, CO.

We’ve said it a bunch but nothing beats a Profile Racing three-piece crank on a Shonky build, this one is sporting a Profile Racing 28t chainring connected to a 14t tooth chainring out back. There is just something about those beautiful three-piece Profile Racing cranks. Fork wise he’s opted for Manitou Circus Pro.

For hoops, you’ll find a set of Spank Spoon 32’s wrapped in Maxxis 2.4″ Holy Rollers. Braking is taken care of with a four-piston Tektro Orion and 160mm rotor.

The 785mm x 6omm rise Spank Spoon bar is held in place by a super cool Rasta-colored Spank 318 35mm stem. It all spins on a Cane Creek 110 headset with a set of OG ODI Rouges handling contact duties.
The build is finished off with a Kink BMX Splendor pivotal saddle and Gusset seatpost.
