He did it again! Valerio was not sure about leaving the old Hei Hei platform for the “new” one, it took over two years to make the move. Valerio’s new 2022 Hei Hei CR DL is built around the high spec of stock bike, with the XC and Marathon racing in mind. The custom build keeps the suspension department unchanged from the factory (i.e. Rockshox Sid all the way) but it adds substantial upgrades on other moving parts.

The drivetrain is upgraded with Rotor Kapic carbon cranks that allow for a quick chainring change and power meter add-on. Valerio rides a Rotor 34T Qring chainring with the cranks smoothly spinning on a C-Bear ceramic bottom bracket. The rest of the drivetrain gets an ultralight Garbaruk 10-52T cassette shifted up and down by the Sram GX AXS that has been upgraded with a carbon inner cage and bigger pulley wheels.

Pedals are the trusty Crankbrothers Eggbeater 4 Ti’s .

Nowadays, carbon wheels are a must, and Valerio chose the made in Germany König Carbon Sl 25.5. At only 1226g they deliver great rolling performance. These are wrapped with his favorite tire combo, the Vittoria Barzo 2.35 on the front and Mezcal 2.25 on the rear.

 

Valerio likes simplicity and the Hei Hei cockpit reflects that; the yellow beast is controlled by a super lightweight 60mm (-17º) stem from MtZoom connected to a Selcof Italiana carbon flat bar (720mm), fitted with some cool Lizard Skin DSP grips. The machine is stopped by the Shimano XTR 9000 brakes upgraded with the Jagwire Pro Hydraulic Hose and quick-fit system, and KCNC rotors.

The last touch of the yellow mania?… a König carbon stem cap that helps Valerio’s dream build to stop the scale at just 9.85kg.

On the scale, Valerio’s Hei Hei hits the mark at 9.55kg (21.05lbs).
