It was a great day for Kona athletes at the 2013 Red Bull Rampage. Cast against 24 of some the world’s best freeriders, Graham Agassiz blew both the judges and crowd away with a huge, fast, flowy run, highlighted by a giant hip at the top and a no-hander across the canyon gap. Qualifying in 8th place (the top 12 move on), Paul Basagoitia demonstrated some serious style with cool tricks like a tail whip and a one-footed landing at the top of a very oversized step up.
But their successes were short-lived: the Super Finals are only a few hours away. That put both riders into heavy training mode, testing out some of the bigger features on the course in preparation for the big show tomorrow. The two join Antoine Bizet, who automatically qualified from his 2nd place finish last year. Bizet has been running up and down the mountain like a goat, crafting a very wild line.
A little chest pumping here: as far as we can tell, Kona is the only bike company at Rampage with three riders in the final. On top of that, our guys are using two different models: Aggy and Bizzy on the new 2014 carbon Operator, and Bass on a 2014 Team Entourage. Look for all three to wow the world tomorrow. With riders like Semenuk, Zink, and Straight looking good today, the competition is sure to be fierce. Watch our guys live at 1pm mountain time/12pm pacific Sunday Oct. 13 on redbull.com/rampage.
