Three-time Canadian cyclocross champion Wendy Simms will be taking a little time off this season to pursue a career in motherhood. With her baby due in December Wendy will not be racing cross.
To keep the women’s side of the team strong in Wendy’s stead, the Kona/FSA Cyclocross team welcomes Helen Wyman to the squad. Helen the current two-time UK national champion in cyclocross, likes long walks on the beach, bubble baths, and laying serious beats on her competitors. She resides in Tielt-Winge, Belgium but is from the UK, and, oh yeah, she’s jet fighter fast.
Helen Wyman’s cyclocross stats:
Highest World Championship Placing: 5th
Highest World Cup Placing: 2nd
Highest World Ranking: 3rd
Helen will be racing the ultra quick, ultra light Scandium Major Jake, starting in North America at the FSA Star Crossed, then the Rad Racing GP followed by Cross Vegas during the Interbike trade show. Afterwards she will return to Belgium to complete on the cyclocross World Cup circuit.
Helen will be racing alongside the usual Kona Crush CX icons, Barry Wicks, Erik Tonkin and current US National Champ Ryan Trebon. Each has been training hard through the summer with continued plans for North American cross domination this season. Look for Trebon to make another run at the World Championships in Tabor, Czechoslovakia.
The Kona/FSA team is riding on The Major Jake equipped with FSA wheelsets, cranks, bars, stems and seat posts. Shimano drive trains, Edge forks, WTB saddles, Kore Brakes, Champion System race wear, protected by Kryptonite and rolling on Clement tires.
They are happy to be supported by Caribou Frames, Svenstad Dental. Feedback sports, Nuun Hydration and Helly-Hansen to keep them dry.
