chainless race 4It started with just a few. But with time, passion and foresight, Whatcom Trails Co-Op has developed into a local community that is willing to ride over anything put in its way. With a diverse foundation of members, the Co-Op has created a culture of support, caring, and respect for one another.

This past weekend was the most fun I have had in awhile, a friggin wicked local NWD 10 premier, followed by a balls out downhill chainless race. With months of planning put into this it was nice to finally get to the date and get the party started. WTC decided to do two showings, with one being an all ages show and the other a 21 and over. We had great numbers for both which is awesome because all proceeds go back to the trails we ride. It was good to see that parents had the opportunity to hang with fellow shredders and let their kids have fun watching the flick as well. With tons of swag from the many sponsors, I think a lot of the people had gotten something they didn’t have before the movie.

The second showing brought out the locals you don’t usually get all in one room. It provided for a great atmosphere and plenty of stories. Oh yeah, we had three kegs of strong Boundary Bay beer, that might have been why everyone was so cheesin!

After a night like this, many, if not all of us showed up late for the race the next day. Oh man, unfiltered beer has a way of making you feel like an absolute loser. Soooo, we get out there and the course had to be changed due to the monsoon the night before. But it all worked out without a hitch or more importunately an injury. With a BBQ and keg to follow, it was party on again!

Many thanks go out to our sponsors, EB, Freeride Entertainment, and to the many volunteers.
