Team manager Jim Brown reports: RRNW took on Boulder, Colorado’s Valmont Bike Park last weekend at the US National Cyclocross Championships. 15 riders, 3 staff, and an armada of helpful parents took on the challenge. On Friday all of the U16 kids raced + the 17/18 women. 12 kids toed the line on Friday, 4 of them won medals and stood on the podium, that’s 25% on the podium for the day. Of the 12 that raced the first day of competition 7 were in the top ten. Probably the highlight of the day was Rad’s dominance in the Boys 13/14, Calder Wood took the Stars and Stripes followed by teammate Scott Funston for the Bronze medal. Isabella Meyers took the Silver medal in the girls 9/10, it was awesome to see her teammates chasing her around the course shouting encouragement. Aynslee King rounded out our podium crew with a hard fought 5th place in the Girls 11/12 race. Also notable was Andrea Casebolt’s gutsy ride to roll in to 9th place in the 17/18 women’s race in her last National Championships as a junior.
Sunday am saw the Elite Men 17/18 taking to the course. Rad Racing NW was led by Nolan Brady who recently returned from a successful Christmas campaign in Belgium. Nolan notched a very solid 8th place in a stacked field of riders. New team member Landen Beckner came from the last row in the call up to finish 19th place.
We had a fantastic trip to Colorado, the kids were happy to get back to the Pacific NW where they course breathe a little easier.
Some time is in order, and then we will start building for the Spring 2014 season.
