Hank & Frank Bicycles, of Oakland and Lafayette California, rank as one of the oldest, continuous running bike shops in America. The first shop opened in Oakland in 1918. Their commitment to cycling and to the East Bay is built on a longstanding, undying love affair with bikes and the cycling community they serve. “We’re really this, the bikes, the customers,” says buyer Steve Eng. “Fixing, riding, the whole thing. All kinds of bikes really. We want you out there riding.”
“Some of our staff have been riding since they were four,” says Eng. “And, many have been servicing the same customers for 15 and 20 years.”
“Personally, I know more about bikes than most people have forgotten,” he says. “If I didn’t love bikes I could have been in computers or medical supplies. But I’m here, love it and wouldn’t change a thing.” It’s a commitment that speaks volumes. Walk through the doors of either Hank & Frank location and you’ll feel it – the enthusiasm, the intelligence, the reason they get up every day. Be part of a collective experience that’ll steer you right.
