Sun Peaks hosted the seventh and final round of the BC Enduro series/Canadian National Champs this past weekend in what can be described as trying conditions. I had never ridden at Sun Peaks, so it was an awesome excuse to go ride the trails there. I wasn’t disappointed, the tracks were super fun, even with the wet and cold conditions on practice day. Everyone there had a blast.
Race day consisted of five stages, one 1200m climb to the top and over 30mins of race time. I rode consistently throughout the day although had a couple of small mishaps, which was the nature of the slick conditions, even though the sun was shining for race day (Thankfully!). I finished up the day in eighth, not exactly what I was aiming for but after coming down with a cold on Saturday I was happy with the result and I had a rad time. I also finished the series in fifth which I was happy with, considering some of the results I have had have been less than stellar.
I would like to thank Ted, Megan and anyone else who has made the BC Enduro series happen this year. As a series, it has really gone from strength to strength and has developed into a highly competitive race series while still providing a good platform for first timers and weekend warriors. If you haven’t raced one of these races, definitely make an effort to race one next year. You won’t be disappointed!
2016 has been a trying year for me. After winning the BC Enduro series last year I was really keen to try and defend my title. Unlike last year, I had a lot of bad luck this year with flat tyres and also did more than my fair share of crashing! I think with the increased competition in the series I was trying to push harder than before in order to win when really I should have been riding my own race. I certainly learnt a lot this season and cant wait for 2017!
All in all I competed in 13 races this year, including three EWS races. Even though I didn’t manage to crack the podium I still felt like I have progressed from last year and can take away a lot of positives. I’m looking forward to the off-season and working towards an even stronger year in 2017!
