A field between a struggling high school and a public housing complex will open Saturday as a mountain bike park.
The park will be a training ground for Armstrong High School’s cycling team and Richmond Cycling Corps’ younger cyclists program in Fairfield Court.
The site is behind Fairfield Court Elementary School, where a playground fire sent up columns of black smoke last month and was known to nearby residents as a common spot for drug deals.
Founder and director of Richmond Cycling Corps Craig Dodson said the park will be a place for the Armstrong team and the community to gather. Children have already shown up to ride on the skill-building features.Read more
