We catch up with Kona’s superstar cyclocross rider Helen Wyman on the upcoming race season.

“So its not long till the start of the cross season. Time flies. This year I’m starting in America again. For the first time ever, USA is hosting a round of the World Cup series, which is incredibly exciting. Cross Vegas is my first race of the season and also the first World Cup. After that I will be staying to race Midnight Ride, do my cross clinic there and the double weekend of Gloucester on the East Coast.

New for this season, the other major series in Belgium, the Superprestige series, has an overall for the women. The races in the series really suit my style of racing and ability, so for me this will be a major goal. The World Cup overall this season has had its prize fund doubled for women, so again this becomes hugely important for us to show our races are as exciting as ever and are rewarded for it. My absolute favorite races of the season are Koppenberg, Aspere Gavere, Valkenburg, Namen and Hoogerhide so there are plenty to keep me busy. Lastly there are Nationals and Worlds, always on my target list!

In the off season I have been pretty busy training and racing. I’ve ridden the Women’s Tour of Britain, French stage races and few individual days alongside extended training blocks in the foothills of the Pyrenees in France. This season I rode the women’s one day race at the Tour de France, on the Champs Elysee, finishing just before the men. It was pretty epic crazy rainy conditions with a million crashes but a lot of fun. Pretty sure that a first for a Kona road bike!

My Major Jake is obviously as beautiful as ever. This year the team has changed to Shimano equipment. I have electronic hydraulic DI2 so I basically have a robot bike! It will definitely help my pit man with no cables to change all season.”

Good luck Helen! We can’t wait to see where you and your Major Jake go this year.
