IMG_9725-2-31-780x520Thomas reports: Last weekend the Scottish Enduro Championships were held in my home town of Peebles in the Scottish borders. The race was one I had targeted at the start of the year as one that I wanted a good result from.

The stages would take in two local forests in the area, Cademuir and the world famous Glentress. There were 2 stages from each forest with a long transition between. Cademuir is the home of steep, tight, twisty and technically very difficult tracks. Stages 1 and 2 would be a mud filled extravaganza. At the top of stage 1 I was nervous. A few slower riders had started the stage in front of me and I knew I would catch, and ultimately have to overtake them on the narrow single track. I had a smooth run with no real mistakes although I did get stuck behind slower riders overtaking 4 during the 4 minute long stage. To my delight I won the stage by 20 seconds. Onto 2, once again no dramatics apart from a few loose moments throwing out the old leg for some stability in the mud. I also won this stage by a fair margin.

After some cake and a long climb I was ready for stage 3 and 4. 3 was a lung buster, taking in the SpookyWood trail as well as some lesser known local gems. I powered off the start line and fired down the track. The stage was long, 6 and a half minutes for the fastest, 15 plus minutes for the slowest. Halfway down my legs were feeling heavy but I pushed on hard. A small crash towards the bottom dented my time slightly but I still won the stage by 25 seconds. Finally 4, the finale. This same trail was used as the Enduro World Series stage 8 and it was a long one. 8 minutes of pure speed. I had a real good time on this one and took the stage win by almost 50 seconds.

In the senior category I won every stage giving me a winning margin of 1 minute and 35 seconds over CUBE action team’s Scott Laughland. My time would have put me 3rd overall behind some heros of mine so I was pleased to say the least. My Process 153 DL was faultless and I’m loving every minute racing it.

Thanks to Tweedlove for another fantastic event, Kona Bikes, Hart’s Cyclery, SweetProtection, FiveTen UK, HIGH5 Sports nutrition, Renthal, EVOC and e13 for their support this year.
