Jon Galanis from New England Bike built up this sweet Rove ST featuring the elusive ‘Ultraviolet’ color that we all wanted but sold out too quick. Jon has taken this rig from decommissioned roads to western Massachusetts bike events like The Deerfield Dirt Road Randonee (D2R2), The Fall Foliage Gravel Grinder (F2G2) and the Massochistah. Let’s take a deep dive into this unbelievably rad build…

Jon added the gold anodized 40t oval chainring, derailleur cage, and 10-50 cassette (along with purple anodized derailleur pulleys) from Garbaruk. The KMC X11SL Superlight in gold was the obvious pick for a chain. For additional color pop he added Forager Cycle’s cable cherries in gold and purple.

Over the course of the pandemic, the stock build began to morph into what Jon envisioned as a lightweight, gold-dripped gravel shredding machine. As a life-long Celtics fan, having a Lakers-eseque color palette on my primary bicycle brings a bit of internal conflict, but it’s hot, so he’ll deal.

This bike is rolling  on Zipp’s new 303 S 700c 45mm deep wheelset with the Goodyear Connector Ultimate 40mm width tires. Jon is also keeping things lightweight with the fork Whisky No.9 straight disc fork.

Earlier last year when Velo Orange became a distributor for the Growtac Equal brakes, Jon obsessively ogled the gold anodized finish on those chunky little calipers before pulling the trigger on them.

Jon went with the Whisky No.9 24 flare handlebars (with Muc-Off’s purple bar-end mount tubeless repair kit and black ESI RCT Silicone Bar Tape). He also added some bling from Wolftooth including their their headset and stack spacers, seatpost collar, and bling bolts.
