We gave you a glimpse into the life of our in-house cinematographer and Kona Ambassador Joonas Vinnari less than two weeks ago in his awesome My Kona video. Over the past couple of years, Joonas has been working on a massive passion project documenting the history of the Finnish downhill scene. The film premiered a few months ago to speakers of Joonas’ native tongue, but he’s just added a version to YouTube featuring English subtitles so we all get to watch it now. Like right now! So do yourself a favor and load it up on your TV and discover how a flat country with an underground city produced so many top DH riders!

“Downhill mtb has been a competitive sport in Finland for the past 30 years, and now it’s time to find out what has happened during this time. How is it possible that Finland, a dark, cold and flat country, has brought up successful World Cup riders like Katja Repo, Antti-Pekka Laiho and DH superstar Matti Lehikoinen. The foundation these pioneers have built has inevitably been an important stepping stone for today’s passionate young talents, who are conquering the international DH scene.

The film is about the ups and downs, the excitement, the passion of riding and the community of Downhill mtb in Finland.”
