Alex from Missoula Bicycle Works in Montana was cutting things close for this surprise mothers day gift for his wife Sarah. We’re pretty sure that this Hei Hei Race CR frame arrived at MBW on Friday and on Mother’s Day it was complete and up on the shops Instagram.

I built the bike for her for Mother’s Day. It was a pretty special built for a wonderful Mom and a long time trail rider here in Missoula. The Hei He is perfectly suited to the long lung-busting climbs and high-speed descents we have here in the Missoula Valley. There is room for two water bottles on this bike so that means plenty of fluid for the long 4+ hour days on our backcountry loops.”

“Sarah, my wife, usually does a post-work hour of power ride, but with this New HeiHei, she has been having so much fun on it that those hour rides are being extended to two hours. I guess I will be on dinner duty more often.”

It would be rude not to build the newest Hei Hei CR Race frame up with the newest XTR from Shimano right? A 32t chainring up front connects to that massive 12-speed cassette out the back.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Shimano’s new 12spd XTR has a whopping 510% range in gears, that’s 10% more than SRAM’s Eagle drive trains. The wheels are NOX Composites rims laced to brand new XTR hubs. The rear wheel is sporting Maxxis Ikon 2.35″ rubber while up the front you’ll find a Maxxis Ardent Race 2.35”.

Sarah is running the stock rear suspension in the form of Rock Shox Deluxe Ultimate, she’s matched that up with a 2021 120mm Pike Ultimate fork.

And when you’ve gone this deep with the new XTR it only makes sense to go with the all-new stoppers as well.

The build is rounded off with a 150mm Rock Shox Reverb with a match 1X remote and a sexy Race Face Next carbon bar, Turbine stem, ESI foam grips, and a Cane Creek 110 headset.

It is a pretty light set-up and ideal for our smooth local trails. It certainly could be lighter but why? For trips north to B.C. the tires can easily be swapped for something burlier and better suited to rocky and rooty trails, the bike is all business when the trails get rough and that is what is so cool about this new Hei Hei
