Heads up to those of you in the Pacific Northwest! The 2019 CX National Championships are heading to Lakewood, Washington, which is only about an hour south of Seattle. Get ready for a rowdy (and potentially very muddy) good time! The PNW is known for dank, cold winters, so we expect this to be one for the books!
Kona’s own Kerry Werner and Rebecca Fahringer will be racing in the elite category. Fahringer will race alongside Team S&M Cyclocross’s Clara Honsinger who his having a banner year aboard her Major Jake. Kona will be there with a big show of support from both our headquarters and the Kona Bike Shop! We’ll be hanging out under our big orange tent smoking meats and drinking beer while heckling hard ALL weekend long. Come by Saturday and Sunday from 12-5pm for the BBQ goodies and FREE BEER!
We asked Kerry his thoughts on the weekend. “I am showing up to win! Haha! Looking forward to throwing down in Kona’s backyard. It’s going to be rad having such a big Kona contingent in the PNW.” We asked Kerry to share his pre-race playlist for us, so if you need to get hyped to ride, give it a listen!
Rebecca’s thoughts echo Kerry’s sentiments. “I think Kerry and I both have pretty high expectations going into the race. I’m slating Kerry for the win in a tight battle, but also no pressure because I’m going to win the Inner-Team Competition regardless! I think winning Nationals is not out of my capabilities, but securing a podium given the field would also be a pretty big accomplishment for me! But going in to Nationals in Washington what I’m most looking forward to is hanging out with the Kona Crew!! It’s kind of a bummer that it is such a big race because I’d love to be more social. Maybe I should just race for that baby masters jersey instead so I can party all week!!”
We’ll also have our Jake the Snake and Major Jakes on display for everyone to check out. Come see why these bikes are regular podium contenders! We hope to see you at CX Nationals the weekend of Dec 13-15 in Lakewood! For complete information on the event, visit the CX Nationals Page.
