VTT Magazine loved our Process 153 DL 29!

Nico Le Carré | KONA COG

The french magazine VTT Magazine tested the 2020 Process 153 DL 29 in their november issue. The review is brilliant, they gave our Process a 4/5 stars in the handling, traction, comfort and front/rear suspension categories! They tested the bike on the famous slopes of La Clusaz in the french Alps, near Annecy.

Lost and Found by Markus Zieher

Words by Ambassador Markus Zieher

It´s that Time of the year again when the sun sets down early. We are moving towards winter.

That means short or no evening sessions at the Dirt Jumps cause we lost the sun light.

Nico Le Carré | KONA COG

But @s-trails_2.0 found a solution. He „just“ built some kind of floodlighting to keep the sessions rolling. Furthermore he installed lights to color up the jumps.

Riding the lit Jumps onboard the petrol colored Kona Shonky ST feels like an actual Partyride.

There is no need to travel to have more light in the evening cause we can have the longest Day at home riding our Jumps.

Probably @s-trails_2.0 lost his mind, but he found it in a good way.

Lets see whats next.

Time Travel with Markus Zieher

Let´s think back to the days when you started with mountain biking. Why did you start? What was your inspiration? What bikes have you ridden?

The first real mountain bike of our German ambassador, Markus Zieher was a 2006 Kona Stinky Primo. Why? Because the great riders in the New World Disorder Movies rode a Kona! Luckily, his grandpa bought him this dream bike, which he used to ride a lot. This bike stayed in the garage for a while.

Nico Le Carré | KONA COG

With the latest ambassador theme of “Time Travel,” it was time to bring the old Stinky back to life. After pumping up the tires the “good old bike” was ready to go and Markus got this idea of the “Time Travel” video, filmed and edited by Nick Bechtle. He was surprised by how good everything still worked!

Five Podiums for the Kona / Bike Ranch Team at the Schwarzwald Marathon!

Enduro One Kirchberg / Tirol – Double Top Ten for the Kona Gduro Team

Baboons, Frank Froetschl

Enduro race season got to its climax in central Europe. This time our favorite race series E1 held its stage event in Austrian Kirchberg/Tirol next to the famous alpine ski track the “Streif” in Kitzbuehl.

The weather promised a warm weekend at 25° Celsius in the Alps. The stages in this area are up to five minutes long, so the suspension and brakes are really tested over the whole weekend.

Saturday is training day with four stages to be inspected while the remaining stage four had to be raced blind. Late afternoon the race starts with the prolog which is also the last stage five next day. On race Sunday itself we were sent on the 25 km long track after the routine check-in. Five stages and over 1,400 alpine meters of altitude difference had to be completed.

Baboons, Frank Froetschl

Stage one was one of the black lines of the local bike park area. Not really technical challenging but becoming more and more demanding as speed rises. Short steep chutes and wide open grass single tracks alternated with narrow switchbacks and some root section. I found my pace there and got fifth overall.

Stage two and three followed straight one by one on the famous Lisi Osl Trail with countless gravel berms. Not my type of riding but the next two stages promised more high speed technical rooty stuff.

Stage four was a blast. I overtook one of the competitors after 20 seconds and letting the Process work over the roots and rocks until a loud dull noise on my back wheel occurred. A big dent released all air and I had to ride half of the stage with a flat tire. That half minute plus was impossible to catch up on the last stage.

Baboons, Frank Froetschl

The last stage unfortunately was too short to caught some time back and I missed the podium by one place.

Matthias had a strong race as well. He was fast in all five stages and missed the podium by a very small margin of half a second! Good job, bro!

Next race will be Frammersbach with steep trails but more pedaling.

Stay tuned!

O’Marisquiño !

Last week our german Grassroots rider Leo Erhardt was in Spain for O’Marisquino, a festival dedicated to urban culture and action sports in Vigo.

The dirt jump comp was a “Gold Event” for the FMB World Tour. Some of the best riders came to play the 15,000 € in prizes and to get a wildcard pass for the FMB final in Crankworx, Whistler (Canada).

The 2019 edition was loaded with news in the Dirt Jump section, including the construction of a new giant “Airbag” reception for the Best Trick contest where runners played the craziest trick of the Festival in a mega jump of more than 8 meters high and 10 m long landing with the bicycle on the soft airbag reception.

A spectacular ramp of 8 meters and height helped the riders to get enough speed and perform their best tricks, a jump never built Spain! This exhibition of the Best Trick was done as a complement to the official Gold category competition.

Our italian ambassador Simone Medici is back racing at Val Di Sole World Cup

The return of Simone Medici (Kona Ambassador) to the downhill world cup competitions took place in recent days during the italian stage of downhill World Cup in Val di Sole. The first day of practice served to regain the race rhythm and to study the best lines in this difficult and technical track. Friday was the day of qualifying and, despite a strong thunderstorm shortly before his departure, with an aggressive and fast descent Simone qualified for Saturday’s final

Nico Le Carré | KONA COG Welcome back, Simone !

This is really a remarkable performance after more than 3 years of absence from these races. Congratulations to Simone and to all the Kona Italy team.

Riccardo Gramatica unfortunately suffered from a shoulder injury after a bad crash during free practice on Thursday.

Some news from the Kona Rookie Camp Festival 2019 in Serfaus Fiss Ladis.

Noah Hofmann raced with a Kona Operator CR at the Specialized Rookies Cup in Serfaus Fiss Ladis in Austria.

Nico Le Carré | KONA COG Noah crossing the finish line, heading for a 2nd place

In the Seeding Run he reached the fastest time in his category U17 and therefore he entered the race as leader. Noah had a good start at the beginning, but unfortunately he had difficulties in the upper section as he slipped away with his rear tire in the curve and thus lost valuable time. Nevertheless, he fought back into the race again. In the end, it was a very tight game and Noah managed a top time of 3 minutes 11 seconds, finishing second, only 5-hundredths of a second behind the first rider, Shakespeare from UK. Congratulations!

To see the guys ride the biggest jumps in the world got me so keen. I really hope I‘ll join them next year for the “big party”!

Arno Van Loo

The small line Nico Vink built was super fun and I was able to ride it to film the first part of the German Bikemovie “Airborn“ which will drop in November. The movie will get 4 parts with Lukas Knopf, Nico Scholze, Lukas Schäfer and me. It’s produced by Tobi Sieg, who filmed „light in the storm“ with me and Arno van Loo.

I can’t wait to continue filming!
